Abyss of Time: Temporality and Existence in Environmental Aesthetic Experience

How do we aesthetically perceive time in an era shaped by climate change, acceleration, and ecological fragility?

This two-day international workshop explores the aesthetic dimensions of temporality in our relationship with natural and built environments. Topics include deep time, seasonal rhythms, duration, everydayness, and the temporal sublime—concepts that shape how we experience landscapes, atmospheres, and ecological transformation.

Bringing together scholars from philosophy, environmental humanities, and the arts, the event reflects on how aesthetic experience negotiates multiple timescales—from geological epochs to the fleeting moment.
